Health Conditions
Dr. Amir Alizadeh provides long-term outpatient care for adolescents, adults, and elderly patients. He diagnoses and treats cancer, infections, blood and organ diseases, musculoskeletal, skin, digestive, respiratory, and vascular conditions.
He also provides primary care: prevention, wellness, substance-use management, mental health support, and treatment for common eye, ear, nervous system, and reproductive problems.
Cardiovascular
Cardiovascular Conditions
Cardiovascular conditions encompass a wide range of disorders affecting the heart and blood vessels.
Common Symptoms: chest pain or discomfort (angina), shortness of breath, palpitations, fatigue, dizziness or fainting, swelling in the legs or abdomen, and sudden weakness or numbness that may indicate stroke.
Typical Causes: atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in arteries), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, excessive alcohol use, and a family history of heart disease.
Common Cardiovascular Conditions
We diagnose, manage, and prevent these illnesses through risk assessment, medical therapy, lifestyle counseling, and coordination with cardiology when advanced interventions are needed. We teach patients about lifestyle changes—quitting smoking, eating better, and exercising—to prevent future heart issues and make sure treatments are working.
Neurological
Neurological Conditions
Neurological conditions are disorders of the nervous system—including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves—that can cause symptoms such as headaches, seizures, weakness, numbness, coordination problems, cognitive changes, and chronic pain.
Common Symptoms: persistent headaches, sudden or recurrent seizures, unexplained weakness or numbness on one side of the body, balance or coordination difficulties, memory or thinking changes, vision disturbances, and chronic or neuropathic pain.
Typical Causes: genetic factors, infections, vascular events such as stroke, traumatic injuries, autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative processes, metabolic imbalances, tumors, and exposure to toxins.
Common Neurological Conditions
We conduct initial evaluation of these conditions, ordering lab tests and scans such as MRI or EEG, and ruling out non-neurologic causes. We provide urgent treatment when needed, and if the problem looks primarily neurological, we arrange a timely referral to a neurologist to share findings and test results and recommend physical and occupational therapists for continued care.
Respiratory
Respiratory Conditions
Respiratory problems that affect the lungs and airways include short-term infections like pneumonia and bronchitis and long-term issues like asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and sleep apnea.
Common Symptoms: persistent cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, and reduced exercise tolerance.
Typical Causes: underlying infections, allergic reactions, exposure to tobacco smoke or air pollution, immune system disorders, or genetic predispositions.
Common Respiratory Conditions
We diagnose and treat lung problems by taking a full history, doing a physical exam, and ordering tests like chest X-rays and CT scans. We begin with proven treatments for fast relief, adjust them as needed, or refer to pulmonologists. Furthermore, we advise and support quitting smoking, avoiding triggers, and getting routine vaccines to lower risk.
Skin
Skin Conditions
Skin conditions are disorders that affect the skin’s appearance or function, ranging from common issues like acne and eczema to chronic diseases such as psoriasis, infections, and allergic reactions.
Common Symptoms: ongoing redness, itching, rashes or patches, small bumps, flaking or dryness, pain or swelling, blisters, changes in skin color, hair loss in spots, and nail changes (pitting, thickening, discoloration).
Typical Causes: infections (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites), allergic reactions, immune or autoimmune diseases (like psoriasis or lupus), inherited factors, hormone or metabolic issues (thyroid problems, diabetes), medications, sun or chemical exposure, hygiene, and stress that can trigger or worsen symptoms.
Common Skin Conditions
We treat skin problems by looking at the whole person, not just the affected area, and rule out causes such as allergies, infections, autoimmune issues, or medications. We work with dermatologists for biopsies or procedures, monitor chronic skin conditions, and teach self-care and prevention.
Musculoskeletal
Musculoskeletal Conditions
Musculoskeletal conditions are disorders that affect the bones, muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues that support movement and stability.
Common Symptoms: localized or widespread pain, stiffness, swelling, reduced range of motion, muscle weakness, joint instability, difficulty walking or performing daily activities, and numbness or tingling when nerves are compressed.
Typical Causes: traumatic injuries (such as fractures, sprains, and strains); repetitive stress or overuse; wear and tear; inflammatory diseases; bone disorders; lifestyle factors including poor posture, obesity, lack of physical activity, and occupational hazards.
Common Musculoskeletal Conditions
We determine if aches, sprains, or chronic pain needs rest, medication, rehabilitation, or referral with rheumatologists, orthopedists, and therapists; adjust treatments for effectiveness and side effects; monitor for complications; arrange follow-up tests; and teach patients self-care and prevention.
Urinary
Urinary Conditions
Urinary problems affect the kidneys, ureters, bladder, or urethra and cause difficulty making, holding, and passing urine and inefficient filtering of waste and toxins that accumulate in the body.
Common Symptoms: pain or burning when peeing, needing to go more often or urgently, trouble starting or stopping the stream, weak flow, cloudy or foul urine, blood in the urine, lower belly or side pain, and sometimes fever and chills with infection.
Typical Causes: smoking, exposure to chemicals, bacterial infections, kidney stones, prostate problems in men, birth defects, strictures or blockages or nerve damage, medications, chronic diseases, low fluid intake, bladder irritants, and tumors.
Common Urinary Conditions
We evaluate and treat common urinary problems by taking a full history, doing a targeted exam, and initiating treatments like antibiotics or correcting electrolyte and acid–base issues. We manage chronic urinary tract conditions and arrange timely referrals to a urologist for complex cases like recurrent infections, blood in the urine, blockages, suspected cancer, or advanced kidney disease.
Digestive
Digestive Conditions
Digestive problems cover many issues that affect the gut, from the throat and stomach to the intestines, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.
Common Symptoms: belly pain or cramps, bloating, excess gas, heartburn, ongoing nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, unexplained weight loss, blood in the stool, and appetite changes.
Typical Causes: infections, certain foods or intolerances, medicine side effects, chronic inflammation or autoimmune disease, structural issues (like polyps or hernias), stress and functional problems, or hormone and metabolic issues.
Common Digestive Conditions
We initiate appropriate medical treatment of common problems such as acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, gastritis, and constipation; coordinate care for more complex disorders like inflammatory bowel disease or liver disease; refer patients to gastroenterology for endoscopy or advanced procedures when necessary; and guide patients in preventive measures, medication management, dietary, and lifestyle counseling.
Endocrine
Endocrine Conditions
Endocrine conditions are disorders that affect the glands and hormones that regulate many of the body’s essential functions, including metabolism, growth, reproduction, mood, and energy balance.
Common Symptoms: unexplained weight gain or loss, persistent fatigue, changes in appetite, temperature intolerance, hair loss or excessive hair growth, irregular menstrual cycles, mood swings, and changes in blood pressure or blood sugar levels.
Typical Causes: autoimmune reactions, genetic predisposition, tumors of endocrine glands, infections, medications, and environmental factors that disrupt hormone production or signaling, lifestyle factors such as poor diet, obesity, chronic stress, and lack of exercise can also contribute to the development or worsening of hormonal imbalances.
Common Endocrine Conditions
We diagnose and treat hormone-related problems by taking thorough clinical evaluations to rule out which endocrine gland is not functioning normally. We work with endocrinologists and other specialists when conditions are complex, and give advice on lifestyle changes to prevent complications, lower long-term risks, adjust medications, treat other health issues, and teach patients how to manage their conditions.
Cancer
Cancer
Cancer is a name for many diseases where cells grow out of control. Normally, cells grow and die in a regular way, but changes in certain genes can make cells keep dividing and form lumps called tumors. Some cancers stay in one place, while others grow into nearby areas or spread to other parts of the body.
Common Symptoms: unexpected weight loss, ongoing tiredness, pain, a new lump or changes in the skin, or unusual bleeding.
Typical Causes: inherited gene changes, smoking and other exposures, UV or ionizing radiation, certain chemicals, long infections, aging and weaker DNA repair, chronic inflammation, and a weak immune system.
Common Cancer
We perform thorough and accurate diagnoses of the type, stage, and spread of cancer, order specialized tests and biopsies, and arrange specialist referrals with oncologists, surgeons, palliative care, and rehabilitation support. We also provide continued care with survivorship plans for patients in their cancer journey.
